HONEYSUCKLE DREAMS is a home business offering beautiful hand-made organic cotton dolls, stuffed animals, quilts and pillows.
I have been happily designing and sewing these unique and special items in my home since 1995. Everything you see on this website is made exclusively from 100%ORGANICALLY GROWN COTTON - it is used for all of the fabrics, stuffing, sewing thread, hair yarns, embroidery yarns, and even the lace!
The colors for the organic cotton fabrics, hair and embroidery yarns are HAND-DYED in my home studio using NATURAL DYES. These dyes come from flowers, roots, barks, fruits, berries, and leaves - some of which I have home-grown or hand-gathered. For example, mid-summer's calliopsis flowers yield a deep orange; late summer's goldenrod gives a bright yellow; autumn's walnuts give a rich brown; and orange madder roots give a red tone! The shredded bark of sustainably harvested logwood bark yields a range of purple tones, and fermented indigo leaves are used for blues. Also, some tones of brown and green in fabrics or yarns are from cotton that naturally grows in these color tones - they are 'color-grown' organic cottons.
Each doll is unique, and special attention is given to custom detailing, especially in hand-embroidery on the faces and in design on the clothing. I aim to make the doll, stuffed animal, or quilt your child (or you!) can't part with!
On a personal note, it is a priviledge to be personally involved with the entire creative process of doll-making and in quilt-making, from the first steps in the fascinating art of natural dyeing to the final unfolding of each doll's individual personality as I hand embroider its face and finish its haircut. I am happy to offer you these wonderful dolls and blankets in soft organic cotton that has been grown in a way that is gentle on the earth!
